Members are invited to a special celebration in honor of OHS’s research library. Having recently undergone a massive renovation and modernization, OHS is thrilled to open its downtown reading room once again to visitors five days a week, no appointment needed, beginning Tuesday, September 27. Ahead of the return to pre-pandemic hours, this member celebration will feature behind-the-scenes tours of the library with collections and reference staff, after-hours access to our museum exhibitions, food, drinks, and live music on the Jin and Julieann Park Plaza provided by DJ Prashant

As space in the research library is limited, members will be given a timed ticket at entry for a guided library tour. While you wait, we invite you to explore one of our new exhibitions, or grab a bite to eat while visiting with fellow members. You can also enjoy the final days of summer outside on the plaza; in honor of our newest exhibition, Motown: The Sound of Young America, opening September 23, DJ Prashant will be playing a lively mix of Motown and Bollywood music.

The Oregon Historical Society’s research library is an invaluable resource for learning about the past and providing context on the present. The library preserves the world’s largest collection of Oregon-related materials, documenting the people, places, and events that have shaped Oregon’s history. All are welcome to visit the research library in-person at OHS’s downtown Portland reading room and online through the library’s digital resources.
