Cost, pick-up, and shipping information

Pick-up Option

All available Traveling Trunks can be reserved for pick-up at the Oregon Historical Society in downtown Portland.

Cost: Traveling Trunks can be reserved for $25 per week for a maximum of two weeks.

Payment: Payment must be made in advance or at the time of pickup. Acceptable forms of payment include cash, credit card, check, or fee waiver. Please make checks payable to the Oregon Historical Society.

Fee Waiver Information: Title 1 schools or schools with 40 percent or more Free and Reduced Lunch can request a fee waiver for the reservation cost.

Trunk Delivery and Pick-up: Renters are responsible for picking up and returning their trunk(s) to the Oregon Historical Society either on Saturday between 10:30am and 4:30pm or on Sunday between 12:30pm and 4:30pm.

Shipping Option

The following trunks can be shipped to anywhere in Oregon:

  • Eastern Oregon
  • Great Basin Native American
  • Lewis & Clark
  • Oregon Is Indian Country
  • Oregon Trail

Please note that the Lewis & Clark, Oregon Trail, Coastal and Great Basin trunks are in the process of being updated and will not be available to rent until those updates are complete.

Cost: While all trunks are shipped to the renter for free, return shipping to OHS must be paid for by the renter. Payment must be received prior to OHS shipping the trunk.

Fee Waiver Information: Title 1 schools or schools with 40 percent or more Free and Reduced Lunch can request a fee waiver for both the reservation and the return shipping cost.

Trunk Delivery and Pick-up: Renters are responsible for shipping trunks at the completion of the trunk rental period.

Return shipping costs vary based on the weight and dimensions of each trunk as listed below and on the distance to the Oregon Historical Society. For a price estimate, please visit FedEx Ground and enter the dimensions and weight provided.

  • Oregon Trail, 25.8 lbs., 22" x 13" x 8"
  • Eastern Oregon, 43.3 lbs., 28" x 18" x 11"
  • Lewis & Clark, 27.1 lbs., 42.8" x 18" x 10"
  • Oregon Is Indian Country, 56.8 lbs., 28" x 18" x 11"
  • Great Basin Native American, 51 lbs., 28" x 21" x 12"

To schedule a trunk rental, please complete a Trunk Request Form at least two weeks in advance of your desired Traveling Trunk reservation date. You must submit a separate Trunk Request Form for each trunk you would like to reserve. An OHS staff member will respond to your request within 2 to 5 business days. Please note that your trunk rental is not confirmed until you hear from an OHS staff member and have received a confirmation email.
