The Research Library's significant collection of microfilm includes approximately 16,000 rolls of nineteenth and 20th - century newspapers from around the state, as well as over 600 rolls of publication from Washington, California, Idaho, Missouri, Hawaii, and Panama.
Microfilm researchers can access filmed copies of Oregon decennial census records (1850-1930); territorial census records for Oregon, Washington, and Idaho; documents connected with nineteenth-century exploratory and surveying expeditions; Superintendent of Indian Affairs’ records for Oregon and Washington; and records of the Russian-American Company.
The Research Library sells microfilmed copies of several Oregon newspapers, the Oregon Historical Quarterly, the Oregon Pioneer Association Transactions, the West Shore magazine, and some manuscript collections.
Microfilm is available for use in the Research Library. We can make microfilm copies of some newspapers as listed in Newspaper Microfilm Masters for Sale (pdf).
The cost for this service is $75 per reel, plus $7 shipping. Orders can be placed either by regular mail or by email to email@example.com.
Requests for microfilm can be mailed directly to the Research Library or can be sent by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to include the words “microfilm duplication request” in the subject line. While conditions can vary, the average turnaround time for processing these orders is 10-15 business days.
