![]() Yingwana Khosa is a Portland based South African dancer, drummer, and storyteller. He was born in Johannesburg and performed in South Africa before immigrating to the United States in 1987. He has danced with the Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus, was sponsored by the Texas Arts Council and Texas Institute for Arts in Education to perform in Texas schools, and presented lectures and dances in schools throughout the country. Yingwana is very experienced in working with children and young adults, and his performances are both informative and entertaining. Area: Within 45 miles of Portland Type: Performance; Workshop Grades: K-12 Cost: $400 per hour (group performance) Performance of Traditional South African Dance Yingwana and two additional dancers present African tribal dances, music, and language. Dance Workshop Students will learn and practice a variety of African tribal dance movements to traditional drumming. In addition to teaching about the history of the dances and music, Yingwana provides information about South African culture and lifestyle.
