![]() Truman Price grew up in Southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley learning to play traditional music from his father and going to square dances at the local grange. Later, in W. Virginia he learned mountain music from old masters by observation and practice. He was soon calling old-time square dances. Truman has done extensive research into Oregon’s musical history and traditions including Scandinavian & Mexican folk music and dance, and especially enjoys working with young people to “pass on the music and the lore.”
Music of the Oregon Trail Truman performs songs from the Oregon Trail period. Using information from primary sources such as diaries and letters, he presents songs typical of this period in our state’s history. These songs provide insight into the pioneers’ concerns as they moved west. His well-researched and lively explanations give students an appreciation the history of Oregon.
