Sonam Tering was born in Dhingri, Tibet, but moved to India when he was four years old. There he studied traditional Tibetan dance and music at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Art in Dharemsala. Sonam Pelmo also studied at the same performing arts school where she learned to play traditional music, specializing in traditional songs and dances. Together, they performed worldwide before moving to Vancouver, Washington. Sonam Pelmo teaches Tibetan traditional songs and dances at Tibet House in Portlalnd. Both of them have a lot of experience performing in schools and enjoy sharing their culture with students.
Area: Within 2 hours of Portland Tibetan Music and Dance Sonam Tering can perform solo or with Sonam Pelmo. They sing and play traditional instruments—dra-nyan (Tibetan lute) and dulcimer—as well as dance. They also teach historical information about Tibetan culture.
