Sam Kama
 

Sam Kama was raised in the old Hawaiian style by kupunas or elders who trained him as a weaver at a young age. He also plays slack-key guitar and sings traditional chants. He incorporates language lessons in his programs and a deep understanding of Hawaiian culture and Hawaiians’ historic role in the Pacific Northwest. He works in partnership with hula dancer and lei maker Lani Hawkins.

Hawaiian Palm Frond Weaving
This is a hands-on program in the Hawaiian tradition of weaving coconut palm frond. Students will learn how to weave a fish, bird or basket. They will also be introduced to current as well as historic Hawaiian culture, geography, natural resources, and the ohana or family value of working together.

Hawaiian Storytelling through Music & Dance
Students learn in Hawaiian storytelling through music, song, chant, and dance; and the importance of hand, feet and body movements in conveying meaning.
