![]() Rosalind Wang, originally from Taiwan, has 20 years of experience teaching at the Portland Chinese Language School. She is also a published author of children’s books of Chinese folk tales, as told to her by her mother. A number of years ago, she studied Chinese knot tying and quickly mastered it. Knot tying seems similar to macramé, but in addition to being decorative, it can also convey messages because it resembles Chinese characters and is often done with symbolic colors.
Chinese Knot Tying Rosalind’s projects are customized to students’ ages and length of requested workshops. Examples of items she teaches include a dragonfly, New Year’s greeting, hair clip, bookmark, or a small wall hanging. Chinese Folk Tales & Customs Rosalind offers presentations on each of her children’s books based on Chinese folk tales. In these, she explains Chinese culture, folklore, and values reflected in the stories. She also offers programs on Chinese New Year and can customize presentations on related topics.
