José Arreguin is a talented folk musician from Guanajuato, Mexico. Growing up in a home without electricity meant that his family usually went to bed early and told stories to entertain themselves. As a young boy, José learned folk songs from his mother. These songs were passed to her from her mother and grandparents. Today, José performs folk songs, including corridos, romanticas, Huapangos, and songs for Posadas at Christmas. He feels it is important to share these songs and his rich cultural heritage with children and adults.
Area: Medford (Portland for special occasions) Canciones (Folk Songs) This solo performance is entertaining and educational. José's songs are both meaningful and enjoyable to listen to. The songs deal with diverse themes, tell of personal struggles and triumphs, and move students to listen, laugh and think about life in a time different from their own.
