Cynthia Mounts is a professional Filipino folundefinedk dancer. She grew up in the Philippines where she attended a school specializing in teaching and training folk dancers. Today, Cynthia lives in Roseburg and directs the Mabuhay Dance Troupe. She also teaches other forms of Filipino folk art and is committed to preserving her her heritage through culture studies. Along with a performance of several traditional dances, students will learn general information about the Philippines such as the Tagalog language, food, history and traditional clothing from different regions. Making Parols: Filipino Lanterns In this colorful program, Cynthia teaches students to make parols, brightly colored paper lanterns commonly used in the Philippines during holiday celebrations. For her residency program, Cynthia combines parol making with traditional folk dance instruction.
