![]() Carlos and Judith were born in Haiti and perform drumming and dance from their Caribbean country. Carlos was first introduced to drumming by his grandfather and later began formal study at the Salesien Drumming and Art School when he was 14 years old. Judith began studying dance and singing at the age of 15. They have lived for five years in Oregon and believe in preserving their cultural traditions through education.
Haitian Dumming and Dance: Workshop Carlos and Judith teach Hatian drumming and dance techniques. Students learn congo and bolero styles of drumming that are a mixture of African, French, and Hatian influences. Along with traditional rhythms, songs, and dance steps, Carlos and Judith teach basic phrases in French Creole. They also explain the importance of drum and dance in Hatian celebrations such as Carnaval.
Haitian Dumming and Dance: Performance In the performance of Haitian drumming and dance, Carlos and Judith are accompanied by their two children and several others. They demonstrate and explain Haitian drumming techniques with congo drums as well as a trap drum set. Students learn songs in French Creole and Caribbean dance steps such as ebo and congo.
