Argelia was born in Mexico City and as a child she learned many traditional arts and crafts from her mother, grandmother, and other women close to her family. Today, Argelia lives in Medford, where she works to facilitate cultural understanding as the Director of the Cross Cultural Communications Center. Argelia is eager to share the knowledge she inherited from her elders with students of all ages and backgrounds.
Area: Statewide Piñatas, Frutita, Calaquita, and Paper Flowers In this fun, hands-on workshop students will construct a number of different Mexican crafts including piñatas, paper flowers, frutita and calaquita (made from sugar gloss, lemon juice and eggs). Students will also be exposed to Mexican music, and other Mexican cultural objects.
